Gallatin Football Banquet 2011

The Green and Gold finished the season with a record of 10 – 2.  The only losses of the season came to teams in the semifinals of this year’s playoffs.  Thanks to all this who supported the Green Wave this season.  The Green Wave will hold their annual football banquet on Monday Dec. 12th at 6:30 in the school cafeteria.  Varsity athletes can bring two guests with them to the banquet.  A letter was sent to each player letting them know what to bring for the banquet.  Make sure you look at the list and look forward to celebrating another season!

Gallatin Pulls Away From Glencliff

The Green Wave defense came to play on Friday night as the home team got a shutout at the Wave Yard for the first time this season.  The offense then picked it up in the second half and propelled the Green and Gold to a 35-0 win.  The defense allowed only 111 yards on the night and the special teams units forced two turnovers before the offense got it going.  After a 7-0 halftime lead, the Gallatin offense got it going as Clay Carnes found Denzel Armstrong for a four yard touchdown catch to make it 14-0.  Darian Banks led the offense on the ground with 147 yards on 11 carries and got the next two scores to extend the Gallatin lead to 28-0.  The final score came when senior Tremaine Smith found fellow senior D’onte Manning open down the sideline for a 34 yard catch and score to setup the final margin for the Wave.   Gallatin hosts Hendersonville in the second round of the playoffs this Friday at 7 p.m.

Gallatin Outlasts Beech in Final Regular Season Game

The Green Wave ride some momentum into the playoffs as they knock off Beech to end the regular season.  Gallatin jumped out to an early lead when cornerback Janairo Perry intercepted a Buccaneer pass and returned it all the way for a yard touchdown.  Gallatin used that momentum to quickly extend the lead as quarterback Clay Carnes took a fourth down around the right end for a four yard score.  With Gallatin leading 14-0 Beech cut the lead to six when they scored on a long drive and subsequent two point conversion.  Tyler Way added a second quarter field goal to give the Green Wave a 17-8 halftime lead.  Gallatin looked to extend the lead early in the third but an apparent touchdown by Darian Banks was ruled an incomplete pass and the Green Wave were not able to punch it in thereafter.  It was Beech that then cut the lead to two with a long touchdown run.  Janairo Perry got in the end zone again as he made a great catch and run to put Gallatin up 23-15 when the Bucs blocked the extra-point attempt.  Beech answered again with a touchdown pass this time down the right side for a 56 yard strike but the two-point conversion attempt was stopped by the defense keeping Gallatin ahead by two.  Beech was able to get the ball back and drive the ball for a late field goal attempt after a wild last couple of minutes but their attempt came up short.  Gallatin hosts Glencliff High School this Friday in the first round of the playoffs.  The Green Wave finished the season at 9-1.

GALLATIN TOPS PORTLAND

10/23/11
The Green Wave dominated the Panthers Friday night on the road and they now hold an 8-1 record in 2011.  Gallatin was able to take the opening drive and punch it in, on a Maurice Box three yard run.  On Gallatin’s next series Clay Carnes turned an interception into a positive as he was able to strip the Portland defender near the goal line and ran up the side line into Gallatin territory.  With that momentum the Green Wave never looked back as Darien Banks ran it in from 10 yards out to make the score 14-0.  Janairo Perry took a handoff and raced 70 yards for a score and senior quarterback Tremaine Smith returned from a knee injury to engineer a drive down the field before half to give Gallatin a 27-0 halftime lead.  The third quarter was a good one as well as Tremaine Smith raced 63 yards for an early third quarter touchdown.  The defense continued to play strong and a Jordan Harper interception setup Gallatin’s’ last score, a Darian Banks 35 yard run.   Portland tacked on a late fourth quarter touchdown to make the final score 41-7 Gallatin.  Gallatin had 381 yards of offense to 115 for the Panthers.  The Green Wave will play at The Wave Yard Friday on Senior Night to end the regular season.

Gallatin Gets Win Over Hendersonville

10/15/11
The Green Wave bounced back after their first loss of the season to down Hendersonville in convincing fashion 35-10.  The Gallatin defense was able to slow a potent Commando attack and the offense piled up in the victory.  Gallatin came out and scored a touchdown on the first drive as Clay Carnes connected with D’Onte Manning on a screen pass.  From there it was the Green Wave special teams that got into the action as the defense got a three and out and forced a punt.  Darien Banks came racing up the middle and got the block which was picked up and returned by Janario Perry for a touchdown.  Gallatin never looked back as the Green and Gold took a 21-3 lead into the half.  The second half started off just as well, when linebacker Ta Rice forced and recovered a fumble on Hendersonville’s first offensive play.  Gallatin took advantage and scored off the turnover giving Gallatin a 28-3 lead early in the third quarter.  Hendersonville found the end zone late in the fourth to setup the final margin at 35-10.  Gallatin as an open date this week and will face Portland Oct. 21 on the road.

Mt Juliet Dominates the Green Wave

09/30/11

The Golden Bears of Mt. Juliet dominated both sides of the ball on Friday night in a blowout loss for the Green Wave.  Mt. Juliet jumped out to a 35-7 lead at the half to take control early.  Mt. Juliet scored on its first seven possessions and never looked back.  Gallatin’s Clay Carnes finished with 160 yards passing on the night as the line of scrimmage was dominated by the bears.

Gallatin Gets Homecoming Win Over Brentwood

09/24/11
Gallatin used big plays to pull out a win versus a good Brentwood team Friday night.  It took all the Green Wave had as Brentwood was able to control the game by running the football.  The Bruins had nearly 400 yards rushing on the night but turnovers and the lack of any sustainable passing attack hurt the Bruins in the end.  Gallatin forced three turnovers on the night that included interceptions by Darian Banks and Janairo Perry as well as a forced fumble and recovery by Ta Rice.  Gallatin used a D’onte Manning 91 yard kickoff return to knot the game at seven in the first quarter.  The Gallatin offense opened the second half by scoring on its first play from scrimmage, a 69 yard scoring strike from sophomore Clay Carnes to senior Janairo Perry.   Gallatin lead 31-17 at the end of three quarters but Brentwood fought back to close the score to 31-24 with nine minutes to play.  Brentwood had a late drive stall inside of two minutes as penalties pushed them backwards and thus securing a big Homecoming victory for the Green Wave.

GALLATIN TOO MUCH FOR STATION CAMP

The fourth ranked team in 5A used turnovers and timely stops to get a big win Friday night at the Wave Yard over visiting Station Camp.  Gallatin recovered three Station Camp fumbles and picked off a pass as well in what was a great defensive effort Friday night led by the senior class.  The Green Wave struck first on a Clay Carnes to Denzel Armstrong pass to take a 7 nothing lead, but could not find the end zone again until the second half.  Station Camps only score was setup by a long kickoff return that helped tie the score at seven after the first quarter.  Gallatin found some momentum right before the half as Darian Banks picked up a loose fumble and raced 28 yards for the score giving the home team a 14-7 lead at halftime.  Gallatin stepped up the intensity in the second half and went to the run game on offense as the Green and Gold were too much for the visitors.  Maurice Box led the rushing attack picking up 141 yards on 24 carries and one score.  The Green Wave defense held the visitors to under 200 yards of offense.  Gallatin returns to Wave Stadium this week as they host Brentwood for Homecoming.

GREEN WAVE TOP OAKLAND IN FINAL SECONDS

In a game of two storied programs and with both ranked in the top ten in their respected classes one could have expected a good contest.  It turned out to be that and much more as the game had plenty of twist and turns as it came down to the final seconds.  Senior Tyler Way hit a 36 yard field goal with one second remaining to lift Gallatin to a 31-29 victory Friday night in Murfreesboro.  Gallatin jumped out to an early 21-0 lead highlighted by a Clay Carnes touchdown pass to D’onte Manning.  Oakland however, cut the lead to 21-16 nearing the end of the first half when Gallatin struck again with a big play.

On the final play, Carnes was able to find a diving Skyler Bailey open across the middle to swing the momentum back in Gallatin’s favor as the Green Wave took a 28-16 halftime lead.

In the second half the  Gallatin defense used some big stops to help slow down a potent rushing attack by the Patriots as the offense struggled to move the ball.  However, with the game on the line and down by one, the offense used the two minute drill to perfection.  Carnes used multiple receivers on the last drive that moved the ball to the Patriot 19 yard line to set up the game winning field goal by Way.

GALLATIN DEFENSE PLAYS BIG IN WIN

9/3/11
The Gallatin defense held Lebanon to just 19 total yards as the Green Wave rolled to a 41-0 victory Friday night.  The defense limited a big play Lebanon attack all night as the defense seemingly had 11 men to the ball on every down.  With the defense doing its job the offense focused on running the football.  The Green and Gold rushed for nearly 5 yards a carry on the night as six different players carried the football.  Gallatin scored on a Clay Carnes rush, a Denzell Armstrong catch, and two Maurice Box runs in the first half to build a 27-0 score going into halftime.  The Green Wave continued their dominance in the second half with a Darian Banks pitch and catch to D’onte Manning and a 20 yard Banks touchdown run to end the scoring at 41-0.  The team travels this week to Murfreesboro to take in an undefeated and ranked Oakland Patriot squad with kickoff at 7:00 Friday.

GREEN WAVE ROLL PAST SPRINGFIELD

08/27/11
Gallatin used special teams and defense once again to jump out to an early lead, that they would never relinquish in their first home game of the season Friday night.  Gallatin’s first score came on a short field after the opening kickoff failed to travel the full ten yards.  After the offense put away the first drive, it was the defenses turn as cornerback D’onte Manning picked up a fumble and raced down the sideline for a 68 yard score making it 14-0.  With starting quarterback Tremaine Smith out with an injury the Green Wave turned to sophomore Clay Carnes to guide the offense.  Carnes managed the game well in his first varsity start as he ran for one touchdown and throw for another to help guide the Green Wave to a 36-20 victory over the visiting Yellow Jackets.  Denzel Armstrong received Player of the Game honors as he rushed for two touchdowns, forced a turnover and tied for the team lead in tackles as well.  In a game where the home team led in the fourth quarter 36-6 before Springfield added two late touchdowns.

Coach Lassiter Gets 100th Win

The Green Wave used two early touchdowns to surge ahead and then hold on to a 20-14 win on Friday night.  Playing short-handed, the Green Wave used turnovers and special teams to pull out the win over a good Wilson Central team.  Gallatin scored on its first possession that was set up by a long pass and catch between quarterback Tremaine Smith and receiver LaMarcus Douglas.  Gallatin used a blocked punt by DeWayne Venable to set up a short score to take an early 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Wilson Central however bounced back to tie the score at 14 going into the half.

Both offenses had trouble moving the football in the second half and it was the Green wave special teams that came up big again this time Dustin Guard blocked a Wildcat punt creating a first and goal that Gallatin would eventually score on.  Gallatin held on for the 20-14 win that gave Head Coach Robert Lassiter his 100th win at Gallatin High School.
